  • no ogre

    Genesis 37, 39-50

Forgiveness is a very beautiful thing.  It sets apart real people of character.  It is the heart of God, and without it we are doomed.  We must forgive and be forgiven.  We cannot forgive without love.
Fear strikes the very chord of the brothers' hearts when they realize their father is dead and they are left at the mercy of the brother they mistreated.  Fear is never good and is really a trick of the devil to steal the peace of God.  The brothers needed to humbly own up to their guilt and ask for forgiveness.
Joseph was a man of God, and even though, he had been wronged and had a lot of power he forgave them even before they asked for forgiveness.  Joseph wept at the thought of being thought of as an ogre.  If Joseph would not have forgiven his brothers for wronging him, he would have missed out on being a key player in the preservation of the lineage of the Messiah.  God would have had to raise up someone else as a savior for the family.

  • Selling Your Brother

        Genesis 37

According to the carnal man, Joseph's brothers had a reason to hate him.  His father, even though he was one of the younger brothers, had him picked out as a favorite ( Joseph was the son of his favorite wife).
Joseph was a dreamer, and was having dreams that the brothers interpreted as making him ruler over them; and that made them mad.  Incidentally, they were right in their assumptions.  Joseph also did not use much sense when dealing with his brothers, he kept "rubbing it in".
This whole scenario had several points that were regrettable:
    1. His father had a favorite son
    2. Joseph allowed it to go to his head
    3. His brothers hated him
Resentment is the forerunner of anger, and anger is the forerunner of murder.

Joseph's brothers were wicked men and Joseph always tried to do what his father wanted, for which his brother's hated him even more.  The brothers resented Joseph, and when his father sent him to check on them, they were about to become murderers as well.  Reuben as the oldest had done very wickedly before, and now had lost his leadership and influence of his brothers.  He was now in the process of trying to resurrect his image.
Get the picture, the favored son approaches the group that has murderous thoughts and they throw him into a pit to die.  Reuben, meanwhile intends to release him and send him back home.  While Reuben is busy, the brothers sell him to some slave traders bound for Egypt.

How many times do we sell our brother/sister?

    1. Unforgiveness Colossians 3:13
    2. Insincerity Romans 12:9
    3. No love for the brotherhood Romans 12:10
    4. Destroying their joyful hope Romans 12:12
    5. No compassion Romans 12:13
        Romans 14:1-23
Christ's church has many followers and of these many followers are many differences.  Each has their own way to serve Christ through various applications.  We all need to encourage everybody in Christ, but not stuff them into a mold to make them like us.
Selling your brother would be the equivalent of giving him such a hard time about his differences that he loses out.  Sin is sin, but when there are petty differences we need to focus on Christ and not the differences.  God's kingdom is not about whether you are carbon copies of each other.
The story of Joseph shows his brothers as evil, trying to get rid of what they though was an upstart.  They had become driven of the devil to exterminate the cause of their guilt.  Joseph, on the other hand, had been prepared by God for a specific work; and they just didn't understand.  Instead of stepping back and allowing God's will to have free course in their lives, they stepped forward and sin lay at the door and then overtook them.
God never intended we try to shove everyone into a mold.  We have differences for a reason and it is up to us to allow God to use the differences he gave us.
Satan never cares about anything, but to squelch the gift that God has given us.  Many times we find ourselves falling were Joseph's brothers fell, and we cause great destruction.  We should always leave the differences of our brothers and sister in the hand of God so we can not be accused of causing a potential disaster.

  • The Origin Of Species

I believe in the origin of species.  All species originated somewhere, someplace beyond my recollection, and your too.  Since time began the argument has waged as to when, where, and how did they originate.  As many of you are aware, there had to be an origin for everything except for the mighty Creator Himself.
Charles Darwin had an origin, believe it or not; as did Richard Dawkins, everyone, everything, and the devil himself had an origin.  How did they come to be?  Was it a bang, or and explosion, a frog from the slough, a fish from the pond, or a crack in a rock that brought these about so quick as you think.
It all sounds intriguing, but what do we hear?   We are missing a link to add up to this sum.  They try and they try, but two plus two never equals three.  There must be another way, a way that is true.  A way that will add up and give you a four.  Its got to make sense scientifically and mathematically too, or else it will be someone else's hair-brained idea.
The story unfolds in Genesis one, where God the Creator made everyone.  He shone a great light from the sky through that week, and reached down to take a big clump of dirt.  He molded a man and a woman one day, and it is through them that we're here today.  The course is now set and God has decreed that we all as people. should love and obey Him as the creator of all.
He's given to us the children we have and as time goes on, to them and the like.  We've got here before us the origin of people, and didn't even go near a church with a steeple, but where did the monkeys, the frogs and the fish come in?
We go back to the story in Genesis one, where God made the creatures some large and some small.  It was not by chance, but by divine choice they all came about on this big green round ball.
'Tis sad but 'tis true that some of us here try to say that we are all a glorified slug from the slough, but how does that relate to the story of God; by far and by large its a trick of the devil to try to dethrone God, the King over all.

  • Earthquake Of Praise

When was the last time you shook the earth with praise to God?  In the Old Testament the Israelites praised Him so loud the ground shook and the army next camp over heard it and wondered what had happened.  What about it? let's hear it.  If we don't praise the Lord the rocks will cry out their praise to Him.  The devil has tricked us into being the quiet in the land, speak out for the truth, and praise Him for His mighty work of Salvation.

  • Real-Life Chess

The chessboard is out, we are gathered together on it.  It is a game of high strategy as the two opposing sides seek to control the pieces.
The outcome will seal your destiny and as you are allowed to approve the moves that are made; you have an active part in the game.  Player 1, God, will never move you nor allow you to be moved against your wishes.  Player 2, the devil, will try to trick you into approving his moves.  We are responsible for the moves we do or do not approve.
The game ensues, and the devil launches a fierce battle for your piece.  His side of the board is equipped with fallen angels and demons; the other side is ours, and God; trying to move each piece is usually hampered by our will.
Alone, you will be out-maneuvered by the devil, but with God your life can be spared.
Remember we are not our own.  We are pawns who can choose our owners.
